Caring local dentistry for Lang Lang and the South Gippsland towns.
Common problems we see as your emergency dentist in Lang Lang
From farm and footy knocks to a toothache that kept you up all
night, these are the problems we see most from around Lang Lang
and South Gippsland.
Toothache relief
A toothache can mean decay, a cracked tooth, gum trouble or an
infection starting, and it’s hard to tell which on your own. We’ll
examine the tooth, take an X-ray if needed and explain what’s
going on. Our first aim is to relieve your pain and get you
comfortable.
Broken or chipped teeth
A knock on the farm or worksite, a hit at footy or netball, or biting
something hard can crack or chip a tooth. Even a small chip can
leave a sharp edge or expose the sensitive layer inside. We’ll
check the damage, protect the tooth and explain your repair
options.
Knocked-out teeth
A knocked-out adult tooth is one of the most urgent dental
problems, because time matters. Ideally it should be seen within
30 minutes. Call us straight away and we’ll tell you what to do
before you leave. Being close by means less time on the road.
Lost fillings or crowns
When a filling or crown comes out, the tooth underneath can feel sensitive or sharp and is easier to damage. It’s usually less urgent than a knocked-out tooth, but worth seeing us soon. We’ll check the tooth and, if the crown is intact, see whether it can go back on.
Abscesses and infections
An abscess is an infection at the root of a tooth or in the gum.
Signs include a throbbing ache, a pimple-like bump on the gum,
swelling, a bad taste or a fever. It needs prompt treatment of the
source, and we’ll find the cause and start treatment as soon as we
can.
Orthodontic emergencies
Braces and clear aligners have their own small emergencies: a wire that pokes, a loose bracket, or an aligner that breaks or goes missing. They can be uncomfortable, especially for kids. Call us and we’ll arrange a time to fix or adjust things.
A knockedout tooth in Lang Lang: act fast and call ahead
Out here, a knock from footy, a horse, farm work or a fall can
happen a fair drive from help. For a knocked-out adult tooth, time matters: ideally it should be seen within 30 minutes, so the steps you take on the spot really count.
If you’re coming from Nyora, Koo Wee Rup or further along the
coast, call us before you set off so we’re ready when you arrive.
1
Pick the tooth up by the crown, the white chewing part, not by
the root.
2
If it’s dirty, give it a quick rinse in milk or saline. Don’t scrub it,
and keep it moist.
3
If you can, gently push it back into the socket the right way
round, then bite on a clean cloth for the trip in.
4
If it won’t go back, carry it in a small container of milk. An adult can keep it in their mouth against the cheek.
5
Call us on (03) 9069 2026 straight away. Tell us a tooth has been knocked out and roughly how far away you are.
Is it a baby tooth? Don't put it back.
Never put a baby tooth back in. It can damage the adult tooth
growing underneath. Press a clean cloth on the gum to stop the
bleeding and ring us for advice.
When you arrive
When you get to Westernport Road, we'll check the tooth and
socket and take an X-ray. If the tooth can be saved, we'll gently
reposition it and splint it to the teeth beside it, then explain the
follow-up visits you'll need.
If we're closed
We're open until 8:30pm on weeknights and on Saturdays. If it happens when we're closed, go to your nearest hospital emergency department rather than waiting. Call 000 for a head
injury, loss of consciousness or bleeding that won't stop.
Why trust Lang Lang Dental with your dental emergency?
We’re a family clinic in a country town, and many of the people we
see are our neighbours. We know injuries often happen on the
farm, on the job or at weekend sport, and that kids have accidents
at the worst times. Our calm, friendly team will explain things in
plain words and take the time you need.
We’re part of My Dentist Network, a group of five local clinics. For complex extractions or troublesome wisdom teeth, our network includes a registered specialist oral surgeon at our Lynbrook clinic. For everything else, we’ll look after you here in Lang Lang.

What happens when you come in to Lang Lang Dental
1
We listen and check
We’ll ask what happened and how you’re feeling, then look
carefully at the tooth and the area around it, with an X-ray if we need a clearer picture. If you’re nervous, tell us and we’ll go at your pace.
2
We focus on relief
Our first priority is to relieve your pain and get you comfortable. That might mean treating the problem on the day, or temporary
care that protects the tooth until a follow-up visit.
3
We plan the next steps
Before any further treatment, we’ll explain your options and the
costs in plain words so you can decide what’s right for you, and
tell you how to care for the tooth at home.

I've hurt my mouth on the farm or at work. What should I do?
If you’ve had a knock to the head or jaw, or bleeding won’t stop,

Is wisdom tooth pain an emergency?
It can be. Wisdom teeth that are partly through the gum can trap food and become sore, swollen or infected. We’ll check the tooth and work on relieving your pain. For a complex extraction, our network includes a registered specialist oral surgeon at our Lynbrook clinic. If swelling is spreading or swallowing is hard, go to hospital.
